Pose Estimation

Models that locate body joints directly from ordinary video, with no markers on the body. A phone or a few fixed cameras can stand in for a marker rig, collapsing both the cost and the setup burden of motion analysis. Occlusion, when one body part hides another from the camera, remains the main limit on accuracy.

Local Positioning System

Optical or radio systems that locate every player in a fixed venue to centimeter scale, many times a second. Optical needs clear sightlines but no worn hardware, while radio works through occlusion but requires each participant to carry a tag. Both live or die on calibration, and on how honestly they handle dropouts.

Gait analysis without markers.

Markerless Biomechanics

Pose estimation applied to gait and technique analysis, bringing biomechanics out of the lab and onto the training ground or clinic floor. The accuracy gap to marker based capture is narrowing but has not closed, particularly for fine joint angles. Multiple synchronized cameras reduce occlusion by giving the model more than one view.
